Penstemon Stapleford Gem
One of the most eye-catching flower colours, within arguably not just the Penstemon range, but that of all flowers making Penstemon Stapleford Gem stand out from the crowd.
AGM awarded P.Stapleford Gem has large bell-shaped flowers which are borne from summer to mid-autumn. They arise from the top of vibrant red stems that are adorned with large lance-shaped leaves diminishing in size as they rise. These are semi-evergreen, and a cut back in late winter will allow lush new growth. The star of the show though is undoubtedly the flower. A brilliant mix of lilac-purple with pale lilac on the upper lip and white lower lips, purple veining leads the eye down the white throat of the trumpet, exquisite.
Full sun, partial shade, the ability to thrive in most soils and once established drought tolerant.Penstemons do not require a fertile soil, just adding fertiliser at planting will suffice. Too much fertiliser will cause excessive die back in winter
Bees love it, butterflies love it, I love it!!
