Helenium Waltraut (syn. H.waldtraut) (H.Walstrand?)
H.Waltraut is also, I think, the same plant as is sometimes called Helenium Walstrand and if it is not I can not see the difference!
Which ever it is it is a vibrant plant that will make an impact when planted in your border and looks stunning planted en masse within naturalistic plantings. A stalwart of the late summer border that continues to flower when other plants have started to fade. This A.G.M.plant is an easy low maintenance plant it is an erect perennial with flower heads 8 cm wide. The flowers appear bronze in the distance but on closer inspection are golden brown fused with copper/orange tones with a brown centre. They bloom throughout late summer well into autumn, and if you feel inclined, deadheading will prolong this.
The flowers are attractive to bees, so are useful in a wildlife garden or prairie-style planting. At 90 cm tall they look fantastic showcased in the middle of a sunny border. Any soil will be adequate, but soils which do not dry completely or lay wet are the ideal.
