Epimedium x Warleyense
Also known as Orange Queen and Barrenwort, this Epimedium must be one of the “unsung heroes” of the garden. It is a fantastically versatile plant, that thrives in shady areas.
During the spring, beautiful, small, delicate, sprays of coppery orange flowers will appear, to “reignite” your garden. You will be treated to a display of several flowers on each stem.
Following the flowers, the ‘show goes on’ with the evergreen leaves providing interest throughout the seasons, notably their red tint during Spring.
This plant has such an easy-going manner once established and will quietly do its own thing, year after year. It will take 2-5 years to reach its ultimate height of around 50 cm.
As well as shade it likes moist but well drained soil and suits acid to neutral soils. In late winter you can cut back the foliage to the base so that the flowers aren’t hidden in Spring.
