Also known as Red Hot Poker ‘Sunningdale Yellow’, this Kniphofia will flower earlier than the traditional Red Hot Poker and will last from summer to early Autumn. Tubular orangey yellow flowers form on slender spikes which are up to 60cm high. These rise from the clump forming, ‘fountain like’, slender, grassy leaves.
This grand display will sit well in the middle of the border and can be perfectly combined with other ‘hot and fiery’ colours. A true ‘fiesta’ in your garden!
‘Sunningdale Yellow’ thrives in full sun but will tolerate dappled shade although this may lead to reduced flowering. It is at it’s best in sandy soil enriched with humus but will grow in most moist, well drained soils.
If you want a low maintenance, showy plant then the Kniphofia ‘Sunningdale Yellow’ is definitely for you. Cut down old flower stems at the end of flowering.
An unusual name, Kniphofia is named after the German botanist Johann H. Kniphof 1704-1763, his memory continues.
