P.Susan is another strong and worthy contender within the Penstemon family. Grown for its upright spires of delicate trumpet flowers, which appear from summer through to autumn.
The flowers are white, tinged with a soft pink which is more vibrant in the bud, a beautiful combination which when added to a mixed border blends harmoniously against other flowering plants.
The clump forming perennial with semi-evergreen foliage is made up of narrow lance-shaped leaves, which stay fresh all year round. An excellent all round plant that is a bonus in any garden and has the added benefit of attracting bees for pollination.
Plant P.Susan in full sun and she will thrive. Most soil conditions are suitable and once established she will cope with drought.
Tip. Penstemons do not require a fertile soil, just adding fertiliser at planting will suffice. Too much fertiliser will cause excessive die back in winter.
