S.marcrantha syn. S. grandiflora commonly known as Big Betony is a show stopper in the garden. From summer through to autumn a magnificent display of fragrant flowers will flourish, attracting bees for weeks on end.
The leaves are heart-shaped, and the coloured dark green. They are softly haired, wrinkled and prominently veined and are borne in rosettes along the square stem, progressively becoming smaller.
The warm purple-rose coloured flowers are hooded in shape and are carried prolifically on whorls up its erect stems.
Suitable for cut flowers, this hardy perennial will grow to its potential when planted in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in partial shade. It will cope with full sun and a variety of soil types, as long as they are not too wet.
